“virtual.Medica” and “virtual.ComPaMed” are the names of the online-only formats for the annual Medica exhibition and its ComPaMed sister event in 2020.
The decision to replace the twin events, traditionally held in Duesseldorf, with virtual formats was announced on 15 September, two months ahead of the scheduled exhibition dates of 16-19 November.
The 2020 event will be split into three areas: Conference; Exhibition Space; and Networking Plaza, which can be accessedvia virtual.medica.de and virtual.compamed.de
The early intention was to host a live event, after a hygiene and infection prevention plan had been accepted by exhibitors. But the massive international dimension of the event and the travel restrictions still in place pointed to the need to change plans, said Medica management chair Wolfram Diener.
Last year, some 80% of Medica’s 121,000 trade visitors came from overseas.
The 2021 event will follow a hybrid format of live platforms and digital offerings. The event is currently devising its live-streaming program, which will include sessions with COVID-19 relevance.
