Broad and Potent Neutralizing Antibodies Are Elicited in Vaccinated Individuals Following Delta/BA.1 Breakthrough Infection

Broad and Potent Neutralizing Antibodies Are Elicited in Vaccinated Individuals Following Delta/BA.1 Breakthrough Infection

Source : https://journals.asm.org/doi/10.1128/mbio.01206-23

With the emergence of SARS-CoV-2 viral variants, there has been an increase in infections in vaccinated individuals. Here, we isolated monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) from individuals experiencing a breakthrough infection (Delta...

Overall, despite broad neutralization of BA.1, BA.2, and BA.4, the convergent RBD mutations in BA.2.75.2, XBB/XBB.1.5, and BQ.1.1 lead to extensive immune evasion to mAbs generated following Delta and BA.1 BTI. Several potent cross-neutralizing mAbs were identified and additional structural studies would provide important insights into how these mAbs tolerate these additional RBD mutations.

Accelerated and Intensified Manufacturing of an Adenovirus-Vectored Vaccine to Enable Rapid Outbreak Response

Accelerated and Intensified Manufacturing of an Adenovirus-Vectored Vaccine to Enable Rapid Outbreak Response

Source : https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/37747758/

The Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations' "100-day moonshot" aspires to launch a new vaccine within 100 days of pathogen identification, followed by large-scale vaccine availability within the "second hundred days."...

This accelerated manufacturing process, along with other advantages such as thermal stability, supports the ongoing value of adenovirus-vectored vaccines as a rapidly adaptable and deployable platform for emergency response.

Factors Associated With Non-Vaccination for Influenza Among Patients With CKD: Findings From the Chronic Renal Insufficiency Cohort (CRIC) Study - PubMed

Factors Associated With Non-Vaccination for Influenza Among Patients With CKD: Findings From the Chronic Renal Insufficiency Cohort (CRIC) Study - PubMed

Source : https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/37717847/

Possible residual confounding CONCLUSION: Among adults with CKD receiving nephrology care, younger adults, Black individuals, and those with adverse social determinants of health were more likely to have the influenza...

Rationale & Objective: Vaccination for influenza is strongly recommended for people with chronic kidney disease (CKD) due to their immunocompromised state. Identifying risk factors for not receiving an influenza vaccine (“non-vaccination”) could inform strategies for improving vaccine uptake in this high-risk population.

Pattern of Inflammatory Markers and Use of Antibiotics in Meconium Aspiration Syndrome: A Retrospective Cohort Study

Pattern of Inflammatory Markers and Use of Antibiotics in Meconium Aspiration Syndrome: A Retrospective Cohort Study

Source : https://www.cureus.com/articles/183412

Objectives To study the pattern of inflammatory markers in meconium aspiration syndrome (MAS) and their correlation with illness severity/antibiotic usage. Study design This is a retrospective analysis of neonates who...

The association between meconium aspiration and neonatal sepsis has been evaluated extensively, but the role of antibiotics in the routine management of MAS remains controversial [11,12]. Increasing evidence suggests that prolonged use of antimicrobials can lead to various undesirable outcomes for neonates, including necrotizing enterocolitis, and disseminated fungal infection [13,14]. In addition, there are potential deleterious long-term implications of altering the neonatal microbiome with injudicious antimicrobial therapy [15,16]. Our objectives are to describe the pattern of inflammatory markers during the first week of life and analyze their correlation with illness severity, respiratory support, blood culture results and duration of antibiotic use.

Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy Associated with Acute COVID-19 Pneumonia

Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy Associated with Acute COVID-19 Pneumonia

Source : https://www.cureus.com/articles/170541-takotsubo-cardiomyopathy-associated-with-acute-covid-19-pneumonia

Cardiogenic shock carries a high burden of morbidity and mortality because of inadequate tissue perfusion leading to end-stage multi-organ damage. The initial work-up includes a pertinent and thorough history and...

The following case describes a patient presenting with symptomatic acute COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2) pneumonia with initial findings consistent with cardiogenic shock. SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia has been associated with multiple cardiac manifestations including myocarditis, heart failure, myocardial infarction, and Takotsubo cardiomyopathy. This patient was treated with conservative medical management and had complete clinical recovery and normal cardiac angiography weeks after their initial presentation. This clinical scenario highlights the significance of a broad differential and extensive work-up when faced with a patient presenting with cardiogenic shock.

Background Severe disease from COVID-19 was the leading cause of admission to the emergency room and hospitalization during the pandemic in Mexico. Acute kidney injury was one of the most...

Conclusions: The NLP ratio has a moderate association and is a risk factor associated with the presence of acute kidney injury in patients with severe COVID-19.

A Systematic Review of Persistent Clinical Features After SARS-CoV-2 in the Pediatric Population

Source : https://doi.org/10.1542/peds.2022-060351

CONTEXT. Long-term health effects after coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) have been increasingly reported but their prevalence and significance in the pediatric population remains uncertain.OBJECTIVE. To present the prevalence and characteristics...

Conclusions: Persistent clinical features beyond 3 months among children and adolescents with proven COVID-19 are common and the symptom spectrum is wide. High-quality, prospective studies with proper controls are necessary in the future.

Cleavage of cFLIP restrains cell death during viral infection and tissue injury and favors tissue repair - PubMed

Cleavage of cFLIP restrains cell death during viral infection and tissue injury and favors tissue repair - PubMed

Source : https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/37494451/

Cell death coordinates repair programs following pathogen attack and tissue injury. However, aberrant cell death can interfere with such programs and cause organ failure. Cellular FLICE-like inhibitory protein (cFLIP) is...

Mechanistically, the cell death–sensitizing effect of the D377A mutation depends on glutamine-469. These results reveal a crucial role for cFLIP cleavage in controlling the amplitude of cell death responses occurring upon tissue stress to ensure the execution of repair programs.
