Conclusion: Hyperuricaemia is common in HF and is an independent predictor of advanced disease severity and increased mortality. Empagliflozin induced a rapid and sustained reduction of SUA levels and of clinical events related to hyperuricaemia. The benefit of empagliflozin on the primary outcome was observed independently of SUA.

Current updates in the pharmacotherapy of heart failure with a preserved ejection fraction

Current updates in the pharmacotherapy of heart failure with a preserved ejection fraction

Source : https://www.eurekaselect.com/article/124935

Background: Heart failure is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. With improved longevity, the incidence and prevalence of heart failure continue to rise with an estimated prevalence of...

Conclusion: EMPEROR-PRESERVED (Empagliflozin) and PRESERVED-HF (Dapagliflozin) results in the management of HFpEF look promising irrespective of diabetes status. Sacubitril-valsartan and Empagliflozon are the only medications approved for its management as per the PARAGON-HF and EMPEROR-PRESERVED studies respectively.

The future of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction : Deep phenotyping for targeted therapeutics - PubMed

The future of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction : Deep phenotyping for targeted therapeutics - PubMed

Source : https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/35767073/

Heart failure (HF) with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) is a multi-organ, systemic syndrome that involves multiple cardiac and extracardiac pathophysiologic abnormalities. Because HFpEF is a heterogeneous syndrome and resistant to...

Relevance: Here we provide a framework for understanding the phenotype-based approach to HFpEF by reviewing (1) the historical context of HFpEF; (2) the current HFpEF paradigm of comorbidity-induced inflammation and endothelial dysfunction; (3) various methods of sub-phenotyping HFpEF; (4) comorbidity-based classification and treatment of...
