Novel MOA targets age-old condition

Hot flashes—experienced by 70%-80% of menopausal women—are physically distressing and worsen quality of life. Newer therapies, such as NK3R antagonists, leverage a non-hormonal approach to addressing these symptoms.

For example, fezolinetant is a selective NK3R antagonist that directly blocks NKB from binding to the KNDy neuron. NKB is a known trigger of vasomotor symptoms (VMS).

KNDy neurons located at the level of the hypothalamus are inhibited by estrogen and triggered by the neuropeptide NKB, thus resulting in the regulation of body temperature.

During menopause, estrogen decline interferes with this balance involving NKB. Left unopposed, NKB signaling increases KNDy neuronal activity. This process sets off heat-dissipation mechanisms, such as vasodilation and sweating (or VMS).

Thus, fezolinetant helps decrease the frequency and intensity of hot flashes and night sweats, honing in on NK3R with an affinity 450 times higher than that of NK1 or NK2 receptors.

What are your thoughts on this new mechanism of action for the treatment of VMS?

Dietary anthocyanin is associated with a lower prevalence of hyperuricemia independently of MetS among females. Foods rich in anthocyanin should be emphasized for females, especially those aged 40 to 59...

Foods rich in anthocyanin should be emphasized for females, especially those who are menopausal, which may be of potential significance in the prevention of hyperuricemia.

Does Everyday Discrimination Account for the Increased Risk of Vasomotor Symptoms in Black Women?: the Study of Women's Health Across the Nation (SWAN)

Does Everyday Discrimination Account for the Increased Risk of Vasomotor Symptoms in Black Women?: the Study of Women's Health Across the Nation (SWAN)

Source : https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38595299/

Discrimination is associated with greater concurrent risk of any (but not frequent) VMS, and chronic discrimination is associated with a continuously high reporting of any VMS over time, independent of...

For any vasomotor symptom trajectories, chronic discrimination was associated with "continuously high" and "high pre-FMP-decline post-FMP" versus "FMP-onset low" trajectories.

Balance in Transition: Unraveling the Link Between Menopause and Vertigo

Balance in Transition: Unraveling the Link Between Menopause and Vertigo

Source : https://www.cureus.com/articles/248273-balance-in-transition-unraveling-the-link-between-menopause-and-vertigo

The onset of menopause, marked by hormonal fluctuations and a decline in estrogen levels, is suggested to be linked to increased susceptibility to vestibular disturbances. Estrogen, beyond its established association...

Because the vestibular system is influenced by hormonal changes during menopause, this effect could potentially contribute to the emergence of vertigo symptoms during this stage of women’s lives.

Influence of Physical Activity Level and Perceived Social Support on Mental Health and Psychological Distress in Women With Menopause Problems

Influence of Physical Activity Level and Perceived Social Support on Mental Health and Psychological Distress in Women With Menopause Problems

Source : https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38712645/

Perceived Social Support (PSS) and Physical Activity (PA) could have an important role in reducing psychological distress in women with problems in the menopausal period. The aim was to analyze...

Dependency relationships were found between the prevalence of depression and physical activity level, anxiety and physical activity level, and self-perceived health with physical activity level.
