Background Genitourinary syndrome of menopause (GSM) comprises genital symptoms (dryness, burning, itching, irritation, bleeding), sexual symptoms (dyspareunia and other sexual dysfunctions) and urinary symptoms (dysuria, frequency, urgency, recurrent urinary infections)...

Conclusions: Our study evidenced that GSM is prevalent in old age Chinese women. GSM is related with UI, POP and VVA. Further older age, menopause and FI were risk factors associated with VVA. Increasing evidence implicates sex and endocrine aging effects on brain bioenergetic aging in the greater lifetime risk of Alzheimer's disease (AD) in women. We conducted 31Phosphorus Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (31P-MRS)...

Conclusions: The present 31P-MRS study of middle-aged individuals at risk for AD indicates sex differences in brain metabolic function of AD-vulnerable regions during midlife endocrine aging. Such changes may increase susceptibility to AD in women and provide a window of opportunity for precision medicine based preventative strategies.
