Attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) affects 5% of children and 3% of adults (APA, 2013), with twin studies attributing 70 to 80% of its etiology to heritability (Leffa et al., 2017).
Conclusion: Our findings suggest that BDNF levels are not significantly affected by methylphenidate treatment in ADHD children and do not differ from controls.
Polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children and adolescents - PubMed
Source : https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/22786509/
Overall, there is little evidence that PUFA supplementation provides any benefit for the symptoms of ADHD in children and adolescents. The majority of data showed no benefit of PUFA supplementation,...
Authors’ Conclusions: Although we found low‐certainty evidence that children and adolescents receiving PUFA may be more likely to improve compared to those receiving placebo, there was high‐certainty evidence that PUFA had no effect on total parent‐rated ADHD symptoms. There was also high‐certainty evidence that inattention and...
Health-related quality of life in children and adolescents with Duchenne muscular dystrophy and comorbid attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder using propensity-score matching
Source : https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0165032723004974?via=ihub
Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is a rare X-linked neuromuscular disorder, with a prevalence of approximately 1 in 5000 live male births (Moat et al., 2013). It is caused by mutation...
Conclusion: This study demonstrated a higher burden of clinical symptoms, health service utilization, and psychosocial factors on HRQoL in DMD patients with ADHD compared to those without ADHD. Future studies using global data may provide meaningful comparisons with our results, and the efficacy of ADHD programs in DMD patients can be...
Associations Between Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), ADHD Medication and Shorter Height: A Quasi-Experimental and Family-based Study - PubMed
Source : https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/37084883/
Our findings suggest that ADHD is associated with shorter height. On a population level, this association was present both before and after ADHD-medications were available in Sweden. The association between...
Conclusion: Our findings suggest that ADHD is associated with shorter height. On a population level, this association was present both before and after ADHD-medications were available in Sweden. The association between ADHD and height was partly explained by prenatal factors, psychiatric comorbidity, low SES and a shared familial liability...
Effect of methylphenidate on the onset of puberty and reproductive organ development in rats
Source : https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0031938423001294?via=ihub
Methylphenidate (MPH) is the first-line therapy for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children and adolescents. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects chronic MPH administration on...
Conclusions/Relevance: The present results demonstrate that MPH could affect the reproductive functions in both male and female rats. However, our findings also suggest that those effects are transient.
